Pulling Away from Meta
interwebsIronically, I was already pulling away from using Facebook and Instagram this year ... even before Zuckerberg's announcement that they were doing away with fact-checking on their platforms. I've been fed-up with "the algorithm" and the ads for quite a while. The joy of the applications was gone and I honestly kept using them because it was a habit and I didn't want to lose touch with people I've known a long time.
And leaving that platform will mean that I'll likely lose touch with some people. But there are other ways to keep in touch with people I truly want to: email, text, or they might follow me off the platforms (to Mastodon or elsewhere)! In the end, my online sanity, privacy, and sense of not contributing to Zuckerberg's already huge wallet is more important to me.
So now I'm working on breaking the habit of opening Facebook. I'm also going to try to help people I know on that platform find a new home on Mastodon, if they're willing. If anybody has links to good Mastodon tutorials, how-tos, or other resources I can share ... please leave a comment or reply on Mastodon.
