The Old Town Trader Joe’s is geared up for Fall!

This flounder house on Wolfe St was built back from the street just far enough to provide two off street parking spots. Brilliant!

The river was filled in along S Union St to make land for a warehouse district in 1798. Later, trains were brought in to move goods to and from the warehouses until they were largely abandoned by the 1960s. The tracks are now embedded in the sidewalk as a reminder.

This is the Vowell-Snowden-Black House, built in 1800. It’s a federal style home that sits on almost an acre of land (huge for Old Town). It’s been owned by several notable people including Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black (yikes). The current owners are doing major renovations.

This unassuming home on S Lee St hiding behind the trees is actually over 4000 sq ft and sits on a large lot. It’s an Italianate style home built in 1800.
259/366
This building at the corner of N Pitt and Queen is a law office and real estate office, but has a great color combination.

The Colonial Market and Fair is an 18th century marketplace that takes place annually on the grounds of Mount Vernon. Food, entertainment, and plenty of shopping. I found an innkeeper’s sign (re-creation) for my office by J. Foster Historic Signs.

Warning sign. Crazy dog.

The wife and I went to Live at the Library of Congress tonight with some friends. It was a movie themed costume ball, so we were Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy.

City of Alexandria posted this on a local restaurant. Yikes!
254/366
This row of homes on S Fairfax has an extra-wide sidewalk.
253/366
While this home looks skinny, Internet real estate sites say it has over 3500 square feet! It was built in 1840 and is clearly haunted. 😉
252/366
Visited the dad in South Carolina to celebrate his 80th birthday. Back with a local picture tomorrow. 😁

Alexandria City Marina and Gazebo is adjacent to Founders Park.

Christ Church at sundown. Located at Washington St and Cameron St. It’s been the church of many influential people in the past and several presidents have attended services.
249/366
I love the roof on this townhome on S Fairfax St.
248/366
George Washington’s Town House was where he stayed when in Alexandria for business. This is a reproduction built in the 1960s based on the original and on the same lot. Mick Fleetwood rented it in the 90s while he ran his blues club called “Fleetwood’s”.
247/366
These two townhomes on N Fairfax have a rat’s nest of cables in front of it.
246/366
Brick work in need of repair at this business.
245/366
This stretch of homes on S Pitt St is color coordinated well.
